Virtual Venues

Virtual Venues change the acoustic signature of a vehicle interior so that the occupants hear themselves and their
media sources as though they were in a much larger virtual space. In addition to room simulation through a Lexicon reverb algorithm, microphones are used to feed the algorithm with sounds from the vehicle interior. This completes the acoustic illusion of being inside the venue.

The entire Virtual Venues signal flow has six inputs in the following order:

 1. Music in Left
2. Music in Right
3. Mic in 1
4. Mic in 2
5. Mic in 3
6. Mic in 4

It also has eight uncorrelated outputs, which can be used for arbitrary loudspeaker locations:
1. Out 1
2. Out 2
3. Out 3
4. Out 4
5. Out 5
6. Out 6
7. Out 7
8. Out 8

Besides multiple Basic Audio objects and a Compressor module, the Virtual Venues algorithm uses four custom xAF modules, which were designed specifically for Virtual Venues:

  •  VenueVerb
  •  AutoBalance
  •  Crossfader
  •  ControlLogic

Tuning:

  • A Virtual Venues custom panel for the GTT is provided. It can be used to tune all modules used for Virtual
    Venues.
  •  A virtual device for the PC is provided. It can be used to automatically tune feedback filters for the microphone paths.
  •  A Matlab tool for the PC is provided to analyze reference and Virtual Venues impulse responses.
