HARMAN ISZ is a technology to create individual listening zones for each listener in a closed environment like a car or a living room. It allows occupants to listen to their own individual sources without the physical isolation of headphones and the interference of the different source material.
HARMAN ISZ uses existing audio system speakers and adds midrange speakers for each individual headrest and directional EDPL speakers in the headliner. ISZ processing provides active damping to achieve CTC (Cross-Talk Cancellation) between zones. Meanwhile the specific directional design and placement of the ISZ speakers provides passive damping. With the combination of passive and active damping, users can achieve a cross-zone isolation factor of approximately 20[dB] throughout the auditory frequency band.
- m_NumAudioIn is equal to the number of individual sound zones preferred.
- m_NumAudioOut varies depending upon the speaker configuration in the vehicle.
- The ISZ configuration is four Inputs and 24 Outputs. This is fixed and cannot be changed in the SFD.
Tuning:
- ISZ tuning coefficients are compiled in the code and are not exposed to users in the tuning tool.
- In the current setup, the tuning filter coefficients consist of unique band pass filters with fixed peak frequencies across different input-output combinations. In the real world setup, these will be replaced with actual filter coefficients that have been calculated for the preferred vehicle environment.
- ISZ works with fixed configuration and does not expose any variables for control and tuning.
Planned to be deprecated, as it has been replaced by FIR MIMO.
